The feeling of home in a foreign place.

Entry for World Nomads 2023 Travel Scholarship

While travelling, my family – as well as beautiful scenery – tend to be one of my biggest sources of inspiration for my photography. While exploring new landscapes, routines, and cultures, I still feel compelled to create portraits of my family interacting with their surroundings.

The story being told with these photos, is the routine of camping in Basque Country, and living in bliss. Being awoken by the chirps of small birds, walking around the campsite at 6am, and being engulfed by the morning sun were some of my favourite memories of the trip. I captured the routine of waking, swimming, climbing rocks, eating and napping in a way that was very personal to me, and fully captured the trip through my eyes.

I’ve grown to focus more on the feelings and the stories that I want to tell through my travel photography, rather than impressive visuals and landscapes. I want my photos to capture the smell, light, feeling and taste of waking up outside, swimming in salt water, and being surrounded by people I love.
